The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) communications Secretary, Rev, Fr. Winfield Kunda has called upon media students to emulate the Spirit of St. Paul by practicing good Journalism after graduation.

Fr. Kunda was speaking during the end of semester closing Mass of the Zambia Catholic University media department in Lusaka last Friday,5th May, 2017. Fr. Kunda emphasized on the need to be unique and help people understand issues around them by writing stories that will inspire people and develop the nation. “Paul is an example of a Journalist who wrote many letters that have inspired people down the ages. Begin thinking about what type of Journalism you will bring to Zambia so that it would be different from what everybody is doing”, he said. Fr. Kunda also stressed on the need for journalists to be analytical when covering different events. He bemoaned the lack of in-depth analysis of issues among journalists. “As a Christian journalist, you need to analyse issues and bring something worthwhile to be called news”, he said. Meanwhile, Fr. Kunda announced that the Catholic National Television, called “Lumen TV “would start broadcasting soon. He said that the Television station would embrace values of Fairness, objectivity, factual, analysis and high ethical standards. “The media in Zambia has been polarized, hence there is need for the Television to be fair, factual, analytical and objective”, He said The Television station which is stocked with high technology latest equipment will be housed at the Catholic Media service Studio at St. Dominics’ major Seminary in Lusaka.
