Catholic Diocese of Solwezi Bishop Charles Kasonde has urged priests working in his diocese to teach Christians a life-long formation.
Rt. Rev. Charles Joseph Kasonde said Priests should be at the pinnacle to catechise their parishioners so as to foster integral evangelisation of God’s people in the parishes. “In order to make the on-going formation of Christians a success in your parishes, you should endeavour to focus on informing, forming and educating with the aim of fostering integral evangelisation of God’s People,” Bishop Kasonde told the priests. The Solwezi Diocese prelate further added that priests should instruct their Christians in Canon law, Liturgy, Scripture, and Homiletics among other subjects as a way of making on-going formation a success. “Instructing Christians should be broadened with the inclusion of teaching some subjects such as Canon law, Liturgy, Scripture, and Homiletics among others, that can help entrench knowledge in the minds of Christians you serve in your parishes,” Bishop Kasonde explained. Bishop Kasonde said this on 11th October 2016 in his official remarks during the opening of Presbyteral Council Meeting held at St. Kizito Pastoral Center Conference Hall in Solwezi. The role of the Presbyteral Council of Priests to assist the Bishop, in the accordance with the law, in the governance of the diocese, so that the pastoral welfare of people of God entrusted to the Bishop are effectively promoted.
