Rt. Rev. Justin Mulenga – Bishop of Mpika Diocese

Bishop Justin MulengaBorn on 28th February 1955 in Kabwe District in the Diocese of Kabwe. Ordained Priest for the Archdiocese of Kasama on 18th July 1993. Appointed Bishop for Mpika Diocese on 23th December 2015 and consecrated Bishop on 12th March 2016 by Archbishop Ignatius Chama.


Bishop Justin Mulenga started his primary education in 1962 at Rosa Mission in Northern Province of Zambia. After completing Primary school, Bishop Mulenga entered Lubushi Minor Seminary in 1969 for his secondary education. He proceeded to Mpima Major Seminary in 1974 to study for Priesthood but he left a year later to pursue Accountancy and Business Studies. After obtaining the Diploma in Accountancy and Business studies, he worked in the Accounting and Costing departments of various companies in Lusaka and the Copperbelt, and in the Diocesan Treasury of the Archdiocese of Kasama. Bishop Mulenga went back in 1989 to pursue priestly studies in Rome at the Pontifical Beda College. After completing his studies in Rome in Bishop Mulenga was ordained for the Archdiocese of Kasama on 18th July 1993. Bishop Mulenga holds a Diploma in Accountancy (Evelyn Hon College), studies in Philosophy and Theology (Rome). Fr. Mulenga has served in many parishes as Assistant Parish Priest (Lwena, Kapatu) and as Parish Priest (Cathedral of St. John Kasama, Mbala) He has also served as Episcopal Vicar for the Religious and Treasurer General of the Archdiocese of Kasama. Currently Fr. Justin is the Parish Priest in Lwena.

Most Rev. T-G. Mpundu, Archbishop of Lusaka and ZEC President
Born on 21st May 1945 in Kopeka Village, Kapatu Parish, Archdiocese of Kasama. Ordained Priest on 17th December 1972 at Kapatu. Appointed Bishop of the then Mbala Diocese on 14th April 1987. Episcopal Ordination on 21st June 1987. Appointed Coadjutor Archbishop of Lusaka on 1st October 2004, and at the same time Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese of Mpika. He took Canonical Possession of office of coadjutor Archbishop of Lusaka on 21st November 2004. He succeeded as Archbishop of Lusaka on 28th October 2006. On 25th November 2006 Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu was led to the Cathedral Chair of the Child Jesus, Pope Square.

Rt. Rev. Charles J.S. Kasonde, Bishop of Solwezi Diocese

Rt. Rev. Bishop Charles Joseph Sampa Kasonde was born on 14th December 1968, in Kalulushi, Copperbelt Province. He did his secondary education at St. Francis Secondary School, Malole, in Kasama, Northern Province. He later did a year of spirituality studies at Emmaus Spirituality Centre in Lusaka before proceeding to Mpima’s St Augustine Seminary in Kabwe where he got a diploma in Philosophy and Religious Studies, and St. Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka where he was awarded a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology (BD) respectively. He finished his seminary studies in June 1998. Bishop Kasonde also holds a Licentiate (Masters) in Systematic Theology (Dogmatic Theology) from St. Mary’s Seminary and University Baltimore, USA, and a Diploma in Industrial Arts and Metal Work Technology from TVT College in Luanshya.


Bishop Kasonde was ordained priest on 4th August, 2001 for the Diocese of Ndola. In the Diocese of Ndola, he worked as the Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator (2001-2004), Parish Priest at St. Kizito, Lubuto in Ndola (2001-2004) and Vicar at the Sacred Heart Parish in Luanshya from 1998 to 2000. Until his appointment as Bishop of Solwezi, Bishop National Pastoral Coordinator from 2004 and a visiting lecturer at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary.

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on the 23rd of March, 2010, appointed Rev. Fr. Charles Sampa  Kasonde as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Solwezi. Bishop Kasonde takes over from Bishop Alick Banda who moved to Ndola Diocese. He was consecrated bishop on 29th May 2010.
